Claudia Gbetholancy

After completing her B. Sc. in Geography at Université Laval, Claudia is currently pursuing a M. Sc. in Rural Planning & Development at the University of Guelph. She has an interest in public participation in decision-making processes. During her undergraduate studies, she completed a research on participatory governance in marginalized communities in Quebec. She has also volunteered for several international NGO’s working on developing training programs for uneducated youth.

As part of her graduate studies, Claudia is completing a thesis on the role of researchers and science literacy activities in Inuit youth land-based learning. The goal of her research is to determine how science communication can serve to support Inuit land-based learning and benefit youth well-being. The project will explore innovative ways to communicate science and examine how scientists can engage Inuit youth in their research in a way that is culturally relevant. This research involves key informants from diverse backgrounds across Canada and is based on a participatory approach.

After graduation, Claudia plans to pursue a career in environmental policy.
